Local Veterans Participate in Creative Arts Festival
Veterans will exhibit their artistic talents through VA Western New York Healthcare System’s Recreation Therapy’s winter Creative Arts Festival on Thursday, February 27, 2020. The festival kicks-off at VA WNY Healthcare System’s Buffalo site at 3495 Bailey Avenue, from 11am to 2pm in Room 301, Freedom Hall.
Veterans can enter or perform submissions in any of the visual arts division categories such as oil painting and leatherwork or performing arts categories to include music, drama, dance, comedy, and creative writing. The competition is open to Veterans who are enrolled at a VA Medical Center or VA Outpatient Clinic and must submit their entries by Friday, February 21, 2020.
VA medical facilities hold local competitions across the nation as part of their respective and healing Recreation Therapy programs. This national annual competition recognizes Veteran progress and personal recovery made possible through recreation therapy and raises the visibility of the creative achievements of our nation’s Veterans after battling disease, disability, or life crisis.
Winners in each of the artistic categories of the local recreation therapy programs will go on this fall to the 2020 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival level of competition hosted in Tacoma, Washington. For more information on this festival or other VA Recreation Therapy programs, please call Patrick McGowan at 716-862-7376, Mary Frey at 716-862-7259, or Pam Kaznowski at 716-862-6814. # # #
