Interim Healthcare System Director
Michael Swartz is currently serving as Interim Healthcare System Director for VA Western New York Healthcare System. Prior to assuming this position he served as Director for the Canandaigua VA Medical Center since August 19, 2016. He served as Director at the Bath VA Medical Center since 2012 and continues in an interim capacity. Mr. Swartz also served as the Associate Medical Center Director for the Syracuse VA Medical Center since July 2004. In addition to his duties as Associate Director he served as VA Health Care Upstate New York Diagnostics & Therapeutics Care Line Program Manager for ten years.
Michael Swartz earned the degree of Masters in Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Health Care Management from State University of New York at Brockport in January 1991. He had previously earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from Ithaca College in May 1985. Mr. Swartz is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Michael Swartz began his VA career in 1984 as an administrative intern at VA Medical Center Batavia. Over the years, Mr. Swartz has held positions of progressively greater responsibility. He has served as an Administrative Assistant to the Director at the Syracuse VA Medical Center; Manager of Integrated Health Systems for VA Western New York Healthcare System (Buffalo and Batavia); and the Clinic Manager of the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic, overseeing the final construction and activation of the new clinic in 1996.

Associate Medical Center Director
Royce Calhoun was recently selected as the Associate Medical Center Director. He has served as Interim Associate Director and was assigned Assistant Director, January 17, 2010. In that role, he served as the Batavia site manager as well as supervisor to many of the administrative departments at both facilities. Mr. Calhoun started his VA career at the Buffalo site as an Accounting Technician in August 1986 and served in progressively responsible roles including Budget Analyst, Chief Financial Officer and Business Manager. He had a key role in the consolidation of VA Batavia and Buffalo to VA Western New York Healthcare System (VAWNYHS) as well the unique and successful data base integration of all of the Medical Centers within VISN 2.
Mr. Calhoun earned his Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of Colorado and an undergraduate degree at D’Youville College in Accounting.

Assistant Associate Medical Center Director
Danielle Bergman is currently serving as Assistant Director at VA Western New York Healthcare System (VAWNYHS). Prior to this assignment, she has served as Human Resources Manager for VA NYHS. She began her VA career in 2007 at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center as a Human Resources Technical Career Field Intern and then served as a Human Resources Specialist. Following her service at Canandaigua, she worked for VA Health Care Upstate New York - Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 2) in Albany, NY as a Supervisory Human Resources Specialist.
Bergman graduated summa cum laude from St. John Fisher College in 2005, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a certification in Service Leadership, and in 2007 summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development. She is also a 2016 graduate of the VA Health Care Leadership Development Program.
Dr. Grace L. Stringfellow | 716-862-8530
Chief of Staff
Dr. Grace Stringfellow joined VA Western New York Healthcare System as Chief of Staff on March 20, 2016. Dr. Stringfellow is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Prior to that she was the Chief of Staff at the Nebraska Western Iowa VA Medical Center since 2014. She also served as the Chief of Staff for the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center for two years and the Chief of Staff at the Amarillo VA Health Care System for four years.
She received her M.D. from the University of Texas health Science Center in Houston Texas, and completed her Residency in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Stringfellow is a member of the VHA National Chief of Staff Committee, a fellow with the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as a fellow with the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. She has also published on various topics including Dermatomal Somatosensory evoked Potentials and the Prognostic and Diagnostic Implications of Somatosensory Evoked Potentials in the Traumatically Brain Injured Population.

Interim Associate Director for Patient/Nursing Services
Regina G. Burke has been appointed Interim Associate Director for Patient/Nursing Service/Nurse Executive for VA Western New York Healthcare System, effective January 1, 2018. Previously Ms. Burke has served as the Associate Chief Nurse for the Ambulatory Care Services at VA Western New York Healthcare System. Ms. Burke has been employed by the VA Western New York Healthcare System since 1981 and has served in a variety of roles including staff nurse, Nurse Manger, Clinical Operations Manager and Associate Chief Nurse. She enjoys being a VHA certified
mentor. Ms. Burke’s educational background includes a Master of Science Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from D’Youville College, Buffalo New York. Ms. Burke’s nursing career has been primarily located at Buffalo facility.
