Women Empowering Women
Women Empowering Women was the theme for the Federal Women’s Program Equality Day program held on August 18 at VA Western New York Healthcare System. It brought together a group of influential women who work at VA who shared their experiences that led to their success. The panel included: Dr. Michelle Ding, Chief, Radiology, Danielle Bergman, Assistant Medical Center Director, Joyelle Hackett,-Equal Employment Opportunity Manager, and Susan Gage, Financial Manager. Each panelist encouraged women to network with others, volunteer for things most shy away from, and to continue learning. When asked about the obstacles she has faced and how she handled them, Dr. Michelle Ding replied, “Be confident, competent, and be able to take criticism.” Susan Gage complemented Dr. Ding’s response by articulating from her experience that confidence comes with learning. VA offers many opportunities for employees to further their knowledge. Both Danielle Bergman and Joyelle Hackett went through The Technical Career Field internship program, a 2 year internship for their perspective professions, both of whom have found a passion for VA. It is important that women in the workplace support one another aiding in their success, which subsequently leads to greater achievements for VA.
