Veterans Artwork Showcases Winners for Upcoming

National Creative Arts Festival in Buffalo

On Wednesday June 7, VA Western New York Healthcare System Buffalo featured in Freedom Hall. The art exhibit represented first-place winners in 51 categories, including pastels, knotting, oil, figurine, carving and pottery as a preview for the 2017 National Creative Arts Festival taking place in Buffalo, New York, October 23-30. The art works are from Veterans represented from states across the nation such as California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Mississippi, and New Jersey to name a few.

VA staff, patients and the general public took a journey through the gallery immersing themselves in Veterans artistic experiences through their use of color, texture and optical illusion. In particular, one local winner, James Becker, generated great interest through his art piece, “Intraflection,” which placed in the Military Combat Experience category.

This visual feast gave those in attendance a sample of the talent coming to the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, October 23 to 30, at the Adams Mark Hotel and the UB Center for the Arts in Buffalo. Veterans will showcase their creative gifts in additional categories of drama, poetry, creative writing, and music. If this June exhibit is any indication of the upcoming Festival, it should not be missed! To volunteer or sponsor the event, contact Mark Francis at 716-862-8667. To learn more about the National Creative Arts Festival, contact Pamela Kaznowski, local host coordinator, at 716-862-6814.
