Thursday, November 29, 2012

VA Western New York Healthcare System is pleased to announce a generous donation on behalf of the Women's Committee of U.S.W. Local 5429, the membership of U.S.W. Local 5429 and Cutco Cutlery Corporation in support of the 27th National Veterans Golden Age Games.

A part of Cutco Cutlery, Local 5429 includes a total union membership of 420 men and women. Cutco Cutlery Corporation matched the $1500 originally raised by the women's committee for a total donation of $3000.

The women’s committee at Local 5429 is involved in projects with several different organizations. This includes past work with Veterans such as setting up care packages for employees with currently deployed relatives. Parent company Cutco also provides support for Veterans by creating a Veteran’s memorial for employees whose family members have served in the military.

This generous donation will support the 27th National Veterans Golden Age Games taking place in Buffalo May 30-June 4, 2013. Competitors at the Golden Age Games include U.S. military Veterans age 55 or older who receive care at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical facility participating in a wide range of sports and recreational activities.

In addition to their donation, Local 5429 have also pledged to provide volunteers during the Golden Age Games. The volunteer services are a welcomed helping hand according to VA Volunteer Program Manager Mark Francis. With over 800 Veterans competing, Francis estimates approximately 200 plus volunteers will be needed per day during the games.

For those interested in supporting the National Veterans Golden Age Games, contact Mark Francis at (716) 862-8667. For further information regarding the Games visit www.veteransgoldenagegames.va.gov.
