Remembering Veterans

Thursday, October 30, 2014

When a Veteran passes away at a VA Western New York Healthcare System site, something special occurs on behalf of those that were with us.

Throughout the year a “Remembrance Service” is held to honor the memory of those Veterans who have recently passed away while being hospitalized within the facility.  It also allows families to gather and help each other throughout the healing process knowing that others share their pain and sorrow.

Twenty-five percent of all deaths in the United States are Veterans. That’s 1,800 people a day; more than 680,000 Veterans every year. These heroic Americans deserve recognition for their military service, particularly at the end of life’s journey. America’s Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country and we believe it is never too late to give them recognition as heroes stated Donald Schumacher, National Hospice Palliative Care Organization president and CEO, advocate for the We Honor Veterans Project. Now is the time to fulfill our mission to serve these men and women with the dignity they deserve.

VA Western New York Healthcare System is honored to provide this special tribute to our Veterans.  For more information about this program, contact Deborah Medakovich at 716-862-6516.
