VA Western New York Healthcare System has been selected as the host site for the 2013 National Veterans Golden Age Games, an official program of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Games, held in Buffalo, May 30 through June 4, 2013 will include over 800 Veterans from across the nation competing in the world’s largest sports and recreational competition for senior Veterans.

The National Veterans Golden Age Games is one of the most progressive and adaptive rehabilitative senior sports programs in the world serving as a qualifier for the National Senior Games in a number of competitive events. Military Veterans age 55 or older who receive health care at any VA medical facility are eligible to compete in the Games. Events include swimming, cycling, golf, horseshoes, bowling, shot put, discus, croquet, dominoes, air rifle, nine-ball, and table tennis.   Veterans compete in ambulatory, visually-impaired and wheelchair divisions, according to their ages.

More details about community support of the events, including sponsorships and volunteer opportunities will be forthcoming.
