Launched nationwide in 2003, My HealtheVet offers Veterans and active duty service members’ internet access to health care information, resources and tools anytime and anywhere.  By logging on at www.myhealth.va.gov and completing the process, users of My HealtheVet are empowered to become active partners in their health care and given access to trusted, secure and informed VA health and benefits information at their convenience.

Getting started is easy.  Log onto VA’s My HealtheVet website and click the register today button at the right hand side of the screen.  After completing the registration page, accepting the terms and conditions and the privacy policy and watching a short video, Veterans are eligible to utilize several of My HealtheVet’s features.  Services include: access to online medical libraries, keeping track of personal health information, tracking over-the-counter medications, immunizations and tests, self-entering military and family health histories and exploring the healthy living centers.

America’s heroes wishing to get the most out of My HealtheVet are urged to visit their local VA health care facility to get an upgraded account by completing the in-person authentication process.  By completing this simple process, users will be able to refill their VA prescriptions online, view their VA appointments and receive personal VA wellness reminders.  In addition, authenticated My HealtheVet users who opt-in will be able to send and receive secure messages with participating VA health care provider teams.

Ed Draper, Navy Veteran, is an active user of My HealtheVet.  He states, “My personal health care management is only a few clicks away. Any time, any place, the secure internet access helps with my food and exercise journaling, prescription refills and eliminates waiting on the phone.”

Veterans are encouraged to take charge of their personal wellness by becoming an active member of My HealtheVet at www.myhealth.va.gov.  Questions or additional information is available by calling VA Western New York Healthcare System’s My HealtheVet coordinator, Sue Genova, at 716-862-7371.  In addition, general information about Veteran’s benefits can be obtained by logging on to www.va.gov
