Director of the Program

The program has a full-time director responsible for day-to-day administration of the program. Residents meet with the director and or preceptor every day during the morning huddle to discuss the day's appointed patients and scheduled activities. The director of the program spends a significant amount of time with the residents in both clinical and educational components of the program.

Attending Staff

The full-time attendings include an oral-maxillofacial surgeon, and four general practitioners. Part-time attendings are two periodontists, two prosthodontists and two general practitioners. Completing the attending roster are consultants in periodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, practice management, TMD and facial pain, and dental oncology.

Support Staff

The preventive dentistry program of the Dental Service is under the responsibility of our four full-time dental hygienists between two sites. Scheduling is centralized plus The Dental service also has a full service in house dental laboratory. Four full time dental technicians provide full service laboratory support which can include the fabrication phase of removable partial denture frameworks, porcelain veneers and all porcelain crowns. The Central Dental Laboratory in Washington, D.C. augments the in house services. The residents work with a chairside dental assistant practicing four-handed dentistry.

Facilities and Equipment

The dental resident spends most of the time in the Dental Service Clinic. Clinic hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Within the clinic are 14 fully equipped operatories divided among the restorative, oral surgery and hygiene suites. Records are completely electronic, including digital panoramic and periapical radiograph units, laser, electrosurgery, surgical microscope and CEREC chairside impressioning and milling as well as InLab zirconium framework fabrication. A reception area, conference room, waiting area, dental laboratory and locker rooms are also located within the clinic.
